Muppirandai (Cissus quadrangularis) is a perennial, fleshy, quadrangular-stemmed climber with tendrils. The plant is thick, succulent, with winged internodes and small leaves. It bears small greenish-white to yellow flowers and red to purple berries. Known as the "Bone healer", it is traditionally used for healing fractures, improving digestion, and treating piles.It is commonly known as Hadjod or “bone setter,” is a famous Ayurvedic herb traditionally used to promote bone and joint health. It accelerates the healing of fractures, strengthens bones, and improves mobility by stimulating osteoblast activity. Besides its musculoskeletal benefits, it also helps in managing obesity, hemorrhoids, and digestive disorders. With its bitter and astringent taste and hot potency, Asthiśṛṅga mainly balances Vāta and Kapha doshas, making it a valuable drug in orthopedic and metabolic conditions.

1. The herb is used for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis. 2. The roots and stems are used to treat fractures of the bones. 3. The stem paste boiled in limewater is given for asthma. 4. The herb powder is administered in treatment of hemorrhoids and certain bowl infections. 5. Stem juice is used for scurvy, debilitating menstrual disorders, otorrhoea and epistaxis. 6. The herb is fed to cattle to stimulate milk flow. 7. The strong fleshy quadrangular stem is traditionally used to treat acid reflux of gastritis, eye disorders, piles and anemia.
