Cardiospermum halicacabum is a climbing perennial herb with tendrils. The leaves are triternate (divided into three parts), thin and serrated. Flowers are small and white. The most characteristic feature is its inflated, balloon-like capsule that contains black seeds with a white heart-shaped spot. It grows wild in hedges, waste lands, and also cultivated as a medicinal plant across tropical regions.
